13) Comparison of ASTER and LANDSAT
Satellite imagery is very valuable
in relatively early stage of exploration for vast area like Mauritania.
Landsat data has been contributed in mineral resource exploration
for long time. Now, ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and
Reflection Radiometer) sensor data is widely used for earth resources
exploration and environmental monitoring because of its higher resolution,
higher spectral resolution, cross-track pointing capability, DEM availability
and cost-effectiveness. In supplementary geological survey by JICA
study team, ASTER imagery was processed for each target mineral and
clay type, and used for ground-truth. Those processed imagery has
been stored in GIS database with the other spatial information, and
some of them will be disclosed in the archives through this website.
